Hut to hut walking tour in the Sextener Dolomites with easy Via Ferratas and stunning views.
16.07. - 21.07.2017For: 6 daysPrice: 545 € per person
We will meet in the pleasant South Tyrolean town of Innichen. We will begin by taking the chairlift up to the Haunoldhütte from where we will start our trek. We follow the Hohenweg (High Path) up to the Innichen Alm (Alpine Meadow) from where we will enjoy our first views of the Dolomites. We will actually summit a smaller Dolomite peak on the first day, the Haunoldkopf (2150m) before descending to the Innerfeld Valley, a lovely wide open valley plain where we will sleep at the Drei Schusterhϋtte (1626m) Ascent 750m, Ca 5 – 6 hours
From the Innerfeld Valley and the cosy Drei Schuster Hϋtte we will climb up the the Gsellenknoten and into the Fischlein Valley, walking through pretty alpine meadows and enjoying the views along the way. Ascent 400m, Ca 5 hours
On the third day we will circum navigate the Sextener Rotwand, following the historic pathways established during the first world war to the Berti Hütte (1950m). These path ways were developed in order for troops to be able to move quickly, easily and en masse amongst the mountains. They were often fitted with iron wires to hold onto and sometimes steps were built into the rocks, hence the name via ferrata which translated into English is Iron Ways. This will be the first opportunity for those who want to try a via ferrata. Harness and helmets will be provided for safety and Andi will provide detailed instructions regarding technique. Ascent excluding Rotwand 750m Ca 6 hours
Leaving the Berti Hut fairly early we will walk up to the Sentinella Pass (2717m). Todays walk follows one of the most impressive pathways in the Alps. All participants will be provided with a harness and a helmet as there are often wires to clip into and one ladder to descend. However, our efforts will be more than rewarded - we will not only marvel at the views but also the engineering involved in carving this pathway out the the rocks! We will sleep at the Zsigmondy Hütte (2224m). Ascent 800m Ca 6 – 7 hours
The fifth day is a bit shorter. We walk up to the Sandebϋhel Saddle and further to the Patern Saddle. At this point participants can choose to either walk around the world famous Drei Zinnen mountains or elect to go on a challenging via ferrata up the Toblinger Knoten. Lots of ladders and only for those with a good head for heights! In the evening we will enjoy sunset from the terrace of the Drei Zinnen Hut. Ascent 600m, Ca 5 – 6 hours
Sunrise on the Drei Zinnen is one of the most photographed views in the world and if the weather is suitable, we will have the opportunity to view and photograph these peaks bathed in red light. After breakfast there will be another opportunity for an optional via ferrata up the Paternkofel before we descend slowly back down to where we started, the Innerfeld Valley. We will enjoy a good break, coffee and cake, and reminisce about the tour on the terrace of the Drei Schuster Hut.
From here it is just a short descent back to the car.
Highlights: Amazing paths through the Dolomites, impressive via ferrata and of course, excellent food and wine in the Italian huts!
