SKI TRAVERSE SILVRETTA
Ski touring in the Silvretta area around the Piz Buin.
04. - 08.04.2018For: 5 daysPrice: 765 € per person
Day 1: At the meeting point we will check and distribute all the equipment before heading off up to the Biehler Höhe (2035m). Travelling on the bus through the tunnels is an experience in itself. Upon arrival we will start straight away with skinning up the valley to the Wiesbadener hut. check into the accommodation before undertaking an afternoon warm up tour. We will also refresh avalanche Transceiver searching skills. In the evening we will pack our rucksacks in preparation for our traverse.
On Day 2 we will head off on an easy warm up tour from the hut an return to the same hut in the afternoon. Our 4 day traverse, sleeping at the Wiesbadener Hut, the Chamonna Hut and the Silvretta Hut. The mountains here offer many different ascent options. We will finalise our routes once we have assessed the conditions and therefore stay as flexible as possible to make the most of the slopes. In the evening we will pack our rucksacks in preparation for our traverse.
On Day 3 of the traverse we cross the border from Austria into Switzerland. Before that we ascend the Jamtalspitze. Here we will decide if we want to leave the skis and hike up the summit ridge to the top. This normally requires the use of our crampons and is certainly not for those who have a fear of heights. The views are well worth the effort! For those who would rather leave this out, no problem, you can wait with the skis. Once all have returned from the summit, we will descend on our skis over the Glacier and traverse to the border pass. From here we ski on pleasant slopes down to the Chamonna Tuoi Hut.
4km & 800m ascent, approx. 5 hours
If conditions allow, on Day 4 we will reach the summit of Piz Buin (3312m). This can be done by various means of ascent – either a steep couloir or a wide open glacier. We will make use of harnesses and ropes to ascend the steepest and most exposed passages. This is certainly one of the highlights of the tour! After the summit, we have what seems like a never ending glacier descent down to the Silvretta Hut (2341m) – pure enjoyment.
3km & 1100m ascent, approx. 6 hours
On the final 5th Day, we return to Austria via the Rote Furka. We enjoy a pleasant ascent up the Klostertaler Glacier to our ski depot and then up to the Schneeglocke (3223m), the final summit of the tour. The descent down to the dam is long and variable and a perfect end of the tour.
3km & 800m ascent, approx. 3 hours
Once back at the Bielerhöhe, we return with the bus to the valley, where we will finish off with a well-deserved Austrian coffee and cake!
